However, along with this required level of expertise, it is surprising how often GRP moulds are used. Let’s take a look at the variety of projects where you may find this specialised process being used.
What are GRP Moulds?
Firstly, let’s take a look at what GRP Moulds are. An acronym for glass-reinforced plastic, this type of mould is favoured for its strength and its ability to be used for more complex profiles where timber may prove difficult to use. The technique uses a Gel coat which becomes the face of the mould, this will then have up to 4 layers of fibreglass matting impregnated with resin applied over it for strength. Reinforcement ribs and flanges can be bonded on and matted over for additional strength.. And, for exact specifications, we also use tooling that has been manufactured in house to ensure it is fit for purpose.
